A Super Saturday Spent With The Bosom Pals
October 18, 2012
Last Saturday I had the pleasure to spend the day with a very special bunch of ladies at their new home in Talbot Green. The Pontyclun Bosom Pals, who are a breast cancer support group in South Wales, were celebrating their 4th anniversary in the form of an inaugural open day, which I hope is the first of many. These celebrations were very timely given that October is officially breast cancer awareness month in the U.K. and it is indeed raising awareness and giving much needed support that the Bosom Pals excel at. The group was formed by Barbara Powell and friends in 2008. They come alongside women with breast cancer and offer practical advice, encouragement, friendship and help dispel the fear and isolation that so often arises from such a life changing diagnosis.
The day was well attended with local MPs Owen Smith, Huw Irranca-Davies and AM Julie Morgan, amongst many others popping in during the course of the day. The day provided a great sense of hope and encouragement with much laughter and warmth resonating in the hall. This was typified by a comment that one of the Bosom Pals so rightfully proclaimed at the cutting of their birthday cake “we are survivors and we must get on and enjoy life”. So everyone at CRW wishes the Pontyclun Bosom Pals all the very best for the next 4 years and beyond and I certainly look forward to attending again next year.
