Breast Cancer Awareness Month
September 27, 2012
Cancer Research Wales painted Swansea and Cardiff pink and blue this summer, at our annual Pink-a-Blue Walks.
Events like these allow us to fund our breast cancer research projects here in Wales, as well important prostate cancer research. It was wonderful to see our regular supporters walking with us once again, as well as lots of new faces.
Here at Cancer Research Wales, we’re proud to fund a number of pioneering research projects that seek to tackle the fundamentals of secondary and treatment resistance breast cancer. CRW’s Dr Lee Campbell explains, ‘The specific aim of these is to understand why some breast cancers develop resistance to current anti-hormone therapies. As well as, the design, development and evaluation of new treatments for advanced breast cancer, discovery of new ways to predict disease progression and treatment response and increased knowledge of the processes that cause breast cancer cells to spread and form secondary tumours.’
We also fund drug discovery programmes in breast cancer that are seeking to design and generate new therapies that can be taken forward for pre-clinical and clinical evaluation.
To recognise Breast Cancer Awareness Month 2012, we have launched our new breast cancer awareness badge. Priced at £1.00 this badge can be purchased from our charity shops based in Cardiff, Caerphilly, Pontypridd and Talbot Green as well as Velindre Hospital. You can also shop with us online https://www.crw.org.uk/shop-with-us/.
