Cardiff City players go the distance for Cancer Research Wales

29 Feb 2012

Cardiff City players Darcy Blake and Craig Conway took time out of their busy training schedule to help put runners through their paces before the annual St David’s Day Run in support of Cancer Research Wales.

Following their narrow Carling Cup defeat at the weekend, the Cardiff aces linked up with local runners to help with their final training ahead of the run, which is organised by Cardiff-based British Military Fitness (BMF).

The St David’s Day Run will see more than 1200 people test their running prowess on Sunday 4 March 2012 in Bute Park, Cardiff. It is open to both serious and fun runners, families and corporate teams. 1.5k, 5k and 10k options are available for all fitness levels.

All money raised from the event will go to Cancer Research Wales for the second year running.

Speaking of the run, Welsh international Darcy Blake, said: “It’s great to be able to use elements of our training programme to help some of the runners and make sure they’re fit and ready for the run so they can raise as much sponsor money as possible for Cancer Research Wales.”

Craig added: “I’d like to wish everyone taking part in the run good luck and hope that they hit their target time as well as enjoying themselves.”

This will be the ninth annual St David’s Day Run organised by British Military Fitness.

Nathan Gibbons, operations director at British Military Fitness, adds: “The St David’s Day run has proved to be a great success in previous years and is becoming a firm fixture on the south Wales running calendar. It’s a great way to celebrate all things Welsh and raise some money for a good cause and as there are varied distances it means families and runners of all abilities can join in.

“Last year was the most successful run we’ve had and we are hopeful to surpass that this year, with 1200 runners already signed-up I’d urge anyone who is interested to register as soon as they can.”

BMF instructors will be on hand throughout the day to make sure all runners are fully warmed up before setting off on the run while providing support for runners during the race.
