Charity walk set to turn city pink and blue this spring

30 Apr 2013

A WELSH cancer charity is set to add a bit of colour to the city of Swansea this spring, with an annual walk to raise money for breast and prostate cancer research.
The Cancer Research Wales Pink-a-Blue Walk will take place on Sunday 19th May. Starting outside Verdi’s Ice Cream Parlour, Mumbles at 11am. The 4.5 mile circular walk takes in Blackpill Lido, with stunning views out to Swansea Bay. Walkers are encouraged to wear pink or blue to show support for prostate and breast cancer research in Wales.
The unique event is open to people of all ages - men, women, children and even the family dogs are all encouraged to join in. There will also be a special warm up session led by a professional fitness instructor before the walk itself.
Cancer Research Wales is an indigenous Welsh cancer charity, funding vital research into new cancer treatments, in specialist centres including Swansea’s Singleton Hospital.
Breast and prostate cancer are the most common cancers affecting men and women in Wales. Cancer Research Wales scientists are currently looking at ways of preventing treatment failure and stopping tumours from spreading to other parts of the body. Some projects are also focusing on the development of entirely new drugs for treating these cancers.
The Cancer Research Wales Pink-a-Blue Walk, currently in its fifth year, attracts hundreds of fundraisers each year to the Mumbles coastline and has raised more than £10,000.
Laura Hooper, Fundraising Manager at Cancer Research Wales said: “This is the fifth time we’ve run the Pink-a-Blue Walk in Swansea, and it’s always been a huge success. Our supporters in the area are fantastic, and it is a great chance to get out in the fresh air, while showing support and raising money for a cause that affects so many people in Wales.”
Entry is £5 person, and sponsor forms are provided for walkers who want to raise extra funds. To register please call Cancer Research Wales on 029 2031 6976 or visit www.crw.org.uk
