Line dancing tribute for Louie

March 2, 2012

A line dancing extravaganza has taken place in Neath to fundraise for Cancer Research Wales and remember an avid dancer who recently died of lung cancer.

The social event, which attracted more than 150 people, was held at JK’s Club in Briton Ferry in memory of Louie Williams. A total of £1,040 was raised for our charity by the guests who ranged from 10 years old to 80.

Louie was 82 years old when she died of lung cancer in October last year after having previously battled breast cancer. She remained active and regularly attended line dancing lessons until the cancer became too much.

Organiser of the event Andrew Hayes, who has previously fundraised for Neath General Hospital, said: “Louie attended line dancing for as long as I can remember. Her two sons and other family members came along to the fundraiser and had a lovely time which is the way she would have wanted it.

“This was the first fundraiser I have done for some time and it was such a huge success. A great night was had by all and most importantly we raised lots of money for Cancer Research Wales.”

Cancer Research Wales Charity Director Liz Andrews said: “Fundraisers like this help us to fund the research into cures and treatments for cancer here in Wales.”
