On November 21st I went along to the Spirit of Christmas fayre at the Cancer Research Wales shop in Talbot Green.

Most people commonly associate the human papilloma virus (HPV) with the development of cervical cancer, in part due to the increased awareness that has resulted from the national vaccination programmes in schoolgirls across the U.K. However, growing evidence from a number of different countries, including Wales, indicates that HPV is also a major cause of a certain type of tumour that occurs in the tonsils and the back of the tongue.

Dr Hiscox is Treasurer for the British Association for Cancer Research, sits on the scientific advisory board of the Breast Cancer Campaign and has previously been a member of the PhD Grants Panel for the Wales Office of Research and Development for Health and Social Care.
