International Conference on Immunotherapy

Representatives of Cancer Research Wales recently spent a weekend in London, attending the International Conference on Immunotherapy. The conference, hosted by the Cancer Vaccine Institute, was the first of its kind to specifically focus on the use of cancer vaccines in combination with chemo- and radiotherapy.

The role of HPV in Head and Neck cancers

Most people commonly associate the human papilloma virus (HPV) with the development of cervical cancer, in part due to the increased awareness that has resulted from the national vaccination programmes in schoolgirls across the U.K. However, growing evidence from a number of different countries, including Wales, indicates that HPV is also a major cause of a certain type of tumour that occurs in the tonsils and the back of the tongue.
