Patron Huw Edwards speaks of his pride in CRW ahead of major symposium

28 Feb 2013

“It gives me great pleasure to act as patron for such an important charity. I’m proud to be associated with an organisation which values its supporters and works tirelessly to make a difference.

Founded in 1966, Cancer Research Wales is Wales’ only independent cancer research charity; raising millions of pounds to fund research into the treatment and diagnosis of cancer and benefitting people in Wales and across the world.

In 2000 I had the pleasure of opening Cancer Research Wales’ new research laboratory in the grounds of Velindre Hospital in Cardiff, which has since become a centre of excellence for the non-surgical treatment of cancer.

The charity also funds pioneering work at other facilities across the whole of Wales, including the Wales Cancer Bank; a hugely exciting project and a real investment by today’s generation for the Welsh people of tomorrow.

I’m proud to see the sterling work being undertaken by Cancer Research Wales-funded scientists, particularly as this ground-breaking scientific research is taking place in Wales.

The Cancer Research Wales symposium will highlight the talents of today’s scientists in Wales and look at the move towards personalised cancer treatments. The people of Wales can take great pride, hope and confidence in the fight against cancer taking place here, in their name.”
