Llanishen Ladies volunteer group organise fund raising events throughout the year, such as Coffee mornings, Bridge afternoons, Bar-B-Q's, Sunday lunches and Fancy dress evening functions. Money from the events held in 1995/96 have been used by Cancer Research Wales to purchase a new -80C Refrigerator. This is used in our research laboratories to store biopsy samples, and tumour and normal tissue cells, essential for the research projects into Molecular Biology, Radiobiology and Cancer Biology. Current and future cancer patients will benefit from the ongoing research projects for which this equipment was necessary. This -80C Refrigerator cost 7,250 and thanks to the Llanishen Ladies efforts, is now being used by our research workers on a daily basis to further advance therapy and prognosis of cancer.
Of course, the 100 Mrs. Jones raised from an 'evening' with friends was enough to purchase a small automatic pipette which is also used daily by our research workers. All donations big and small are very welcome and so essential if Cancer Research Wales is to continue to help research workers in Wales provide hope for current and future cancer patients, and the possible break through for which we all search.
