Welsh Charity announces £1million to Fight Cancer in Wales

A WELSH cancer charity has announced a £1million funding injection into cancer research projects across Wales.

Cancer Research Wales, an indigenous Welsh charity with its headquarters at Velindre Hospital in Cardiff, has confirmed today (Saturday January 24th) that £1million raised by the people of Wales in the last year will be distributed to groundbreaking research projects into cancer across North, South and West Wales. ‘Australia’ is the Hottest Ticket in Town

OZ FEVER has hit a Welsh cancer charity following Wales’ celebrated win over the Australian rugby team at the Millennium Stadium last weekend.

Cancer Research Wales has secured the official Welsh premiere of the long awaited new Baz Luhurmann film, ‘Australia’ at Cineworld in Cardiff– and tickets are selling fast. View more.

 

Roy Raises £550 for Cancer Research Wales

Ex-cancer patient Roy Robertson has raised £550 for Cancer Research Wales by joining forces with the Caerphilly Farmers Market.

Roy, 66, was diagnosed with prostate cancer six years ago and ever since has been fundraising for the charity which saved his life. He acts as a marshal at Cancer Research Wales events, including the annual cycle ride which takes place every June, and has been bucket collecting at the Caerphilly Farmers Market for the past two years. This year he has joined forces with Betty Pett, whose husband runs the market, who now sells donated books on her honey stall on behalf of the charity. View more.

 

David raises £600 at 60th birthday bash for Cancer Research Wales

David Phillips celebrated his 60th birthday in style at the Hungary Trout in Newquay, West Wales recently and raised £600 for Cancer Research Wales in the process.

Instead of asking for presents, David from Llandysul in Ceredigion, asked his 40 guests to donate money to the Welsh cancer charity that helped save his life. View more.

 

Cardiff Blues have Christmas all Wrapped Up

CHRISTMAS shoppers in Cardiff might have a surprise this week, when rugby stars take to one of the busiest city centre shopping spots for special act of festive goodwill.

Cardiff Blues rugby players Xavier Rush, Richie Rees and Ben White will all be at the Capitol Centre in Cardiff this Friday (DECEMBER 16) helping to gift wrap presents for stressed-out shoppers. View more.

 

Fashionable Donation for Welsh Cancer Charity

A bank has made a fashionable donation to a Welsh cancer charity to help in the fight against cancer.  

Royal Bank of Scotland and Natwest match-funded £500 of the money raised by a fashion show held to raise money for Cancer Research Wales.

The charity, which has its headquarters at Velindre Hospital in Cardiff, funds vital and pioneering research into cancer in centres across Wales. View more.

Llandaff students continue support for Welsh Charity

Sixth Form College students from Howell’s School Llandaff have continued their support for their adopted charity, Cancer Research Wales with a coffee morning.

This is the second coffee morning run in consecutive years that the dedicated Sixth formers have run, raising a combined £750. View more.

A very special 70th Birthday

A GRANDFATHER from Bridgend has raised thousands of pounds for a Welsh cancer charity by conquering Wales’ highest mountain on his 70th birthday.

David Evans, a former pub landlord at the Six Bells Inn in Coity, decided to take on the incredible challenge of climbing Mount Snowdon to raise money for Cancer Research Wales - but had no idea of the surprise that was waiting for him at the summit. View more.

 

CRW Gets into the Festive Spirit

A Welsh cancer charity is getting into the Christmas spirit, by opening a new shop entirely dedicated to festive fun.

Cancer Research Wales has turned its shop on Merthyr Road in Whitchurch into a Grotto of Christmas treats, from decorations to cards, trees, Father Christmases, advent calandars and a whole host of other Christmas accessories. View more.

 

Dress to impress and help Cancer Research Wales

A WELSH cancer charity is offering its supporters the chance to beat the credit crunch this Christmas and save money on their festive party outfits.

Cancer Research Wales is holding a luxury ‘Christmas Dress Sale’ at the Village Hotel in Coryton on Saturday, November 15th. The charity has been making collections in the weeks running up to the event, where people can donate glamorous party outfits, which may only have been worn once, ahead of the Christmas party season. Barclays matches Red Sock Cancer campaign

BARCLAYS Bank in Cardiff has matched the funds raised by a unique campaign to raise awareness of prostate cancer among men in Wales.

Keith Cass, a retired businessman from Cardiff launched the ‘Red Sock’ campaign when he was diagnosed with stage four prostate cancer - an advanced stage where little or no treatment can be given. View more.

Last chance to score at Ninian Park and fight Cancer in Wales

AS the Bluebirds prepare for the club’s biggest game since 1927 in Sunday’s FA Cup Semi-Final clash against Barnsley, a Welsh cancer charity is giving fans and amateur players alike the chance to score a goal for Cardiff City at Ninian Park in front of 18,000 fans.

Cancer Research Wales is organising a unique 5-a-Side football tournament in association with Cardiff City FC on April 20 at Powerleague in Whitchurch, Cardiff. View more.

 

Charity carries on its work in memory of founder Ed

Less than a year after the death of its founder, The Ed Evans Foundation will host its largest charity event to date on Friday 18 March in memory of its creator who lost his battle against a rare form of brain tumour last October.

Titled the Ed Evans Memorial Spring Ball, the near to sell-out event will see Ed’s loyal friends and family gather with fellow fundraisers at the black tie event  in the grounds of Sophia Gardens. View more.

A group of fundraisers from Briton Ferry are pulling on their trainers and heading for the M4 for a mammoth fundraising walk in aid of Cancer Research Wales.

Sue Hughes, (42) lost her teenage daughter Amy to cancer shortly before her 18th birthday in 2005. Since Amy’s sudden death, Sue has organised a series of events each year for the charity that funds vital research into the treatment and prevention of the disease in Wales. View more.

Welsh Cancer Charity appeal for life changing research into prostate cancer

A WELSH cancer charity is appealing to the people of Wales to help fund pioneering research into one of the most common cancers affecting people in Wales.

This week (MARCH 10 -16 2008) is National Prostate Cancer Awareness Week, and Cancer Research Wales, which has its headquarters at Velindre Hospital in Cardiff, is encouraging the people of Wales to donate to its £1million appeal, to help Welsh scientists develop an accurate test for prostate cancer, a disease which affects more than 1,400 men in Wales every year. Young farmers ‘seil’ their way to fundraising success

ERYRI Young Farmers have ‘seiled’ their way to a fundraising success for a Welsh cancer charity.

Four members of the Young Farmers Club, Nia Lloyd, Nesta Griffiths, Nia Griffith, and Eleri Evans completed a sponsored abseil challenge in aid of Cancer Research Wales and raised £500. View more.
